The Stagecraft Club at Indira University turned the spotlight toward raw emotion, powerful storytelling and the art of truly becoming a character as they hosted “Journey of Drama: Stage Acting”, a two-day immersive workshop led by theatre artist and actor Abheney Sawant on 26th & 27th November 2025 at the Tapasya Auditorium.

For two afternoons, the auditorium morphed into a world where voices carried meaning and silence itself became a tool of expression. Students experienced an atmosphere charged with creativity as Abheney Sawant, son of acclaimed actor Nirmiti Sawant and an artist with deep roots in theatre, brought his experience and passion straight to the stage.

Known for his impactful roles in films like Shrimant Damodar Pant and backed by years of theatre training, Abheney introduced students to the true essence of stagecraft: presence, voice and emotion. His approach was all about understanding the emotions. Feeling them. Living them.

The workshop kicked off with foundational techniques, helping students build a strong stage presence. Through voice modulation drills, emotion-mapping exercises and dramatic movement practices, participants explored how an actor’s body and voice can command a stage without a single spotlight shifting.

From there, the sessions unfolded into deeper layers of performance. Abheney encouraged students to break out of hesitation and tap into their authentic expression, teaching them how confidence isn’t just performed, but cultivated. Scenes were rehearsed, characters were dissected, and students experimented with improvisation that brought laughter and introspective moments to the room.

What truly defined the workshop was Abheney’s gift for storytelling. Every concept came alive with anecdotes from his childhood steeped in performing arts, his early days in theatre, and his journey into Marathi cinema. Students were experiencing the craft through the eyes of someone who lives and breathes the stage.

By the end of the two days, the Tapasya Auditorium echoed with newly awakened talent, bold voices, and expressive confidence. Students who walked in as curious learners walked out as performers, more aware of their presence, more connected to their emotions and more fearless in their expression.

The Stagecraft Club’s “Journey of Drama” was a reminder that the stage doesn’t ask for perfection, it asks only for truth.
