Sanitary Pads Distribution Campaign: A Step Toward Dignity, Awareness & Community Well-Being
Menstrual hygiene is one of the most overlooked public health concerns in India, especially in underserved communities where taboos, lack of awareness and limited access to sanitary products often place young girls and women at risk. Recognizing the urgency of this issue, Indira Universityβs School of Commerce & Economics initiated a meaningful and compassionate outreach program aimed at creating real change where it is needed the most.
To bridge the gap between awareness and access, the students stepped into the nearby slum community with a mission rooted in empathy, responsibility and social consciousness. What began as a simple initiative soon became a powerful reminder of how deeply menstrual hygiene impacts education, health and the overall well-being of women.
During the campaign, students distributed sanitary pads to girls and women who often struggle to afford or access safe menstrual products. But this initiative went far beyond distribution, it focused on breaking stigma, encouraging open conversations and providing clear, practical knowledge about menstrual hygiene practices. Many women shared their challenges and for several young girls, this session became the first time they received correct, stigma-free information about their own bodies.
The campaign emphasized several crucial aspects of menstrual health, including the importance of safe hygiene practices, regular access to sanitary products, and the need to break common myths and misconceptions that continue to affect women in underserved communities. Students also highlighted the health risks linked to inadequate menstrual care and addressed the emotional and social impact of stigma, helping girls and women understand their bodies with greater clarity, dignity and confidence.
For students, this was an eye-opening experience that brought classroom learning into context. It made them more aware of the realities faced by marginalized communities and strengthened their commitment to social responsibility.
At Indira University, we believe that true education extends beyond academics. It lies in compassion, awareness and the willingness to step forward for those who need support. This campaign stands as a testament to the values we uphold, empathy, inclusivity and meaningful action.
Small steps can inspire big change. And through this initiative, our students proved that when young minds come together with purpose, they can uplift communities and spark lasting impact.
