Nurturing What Sustains Us - One Tree at a Time
Earth Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a call to act, to show up, and to care not from a distance, but with our own hands.
At Indira University’s campus, this World Earth Day was observed not with words alone, but with purposeful action. On 22nd April, students and staff came together to clear dried leaves, trim overgrown fronds, and pluck coconuts, a hands-on effort to refresh and rejuvenate the green spaces that breathe life into the campus every single day.
At the heart of this effort stood the coconut tree, rightfully called the Tree of Life. Every part of it serves a purpose, every branch a gift. It is a quiet symbol of everything Earth offers us: abundance, resilience, and quiet generosity. Caring for these trees was not just a task; it was a tribute.
With Pune’s weather growing increasingly unpredictable, the need to tend to our surroundings has never felt more real or more urgent. Small acts of stewardship, clearing what is dry, making room for what is new, are how ecosystems breathe again. Indira University has always believed that sustainability begins at home. This Earth Day was a reflection of that belief that responsibility does not wait for grand gestures. It begins on your own campus, with your own hands, on an ordinary afternoon that becomes anything but.
Because World Earth Day is not just about celebrating nature, it is about showing up for it.
