On 18th September, Indira University had the privilege of welcoming two distinguished guests, H.E. Ubong Akpan Johnny, High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and H.E. Ms. Jacqueline Mukangira, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda to India.

Dr. Anagha Joshi, Vice Chancellor (I/C) of Indira University, warmly welcomed and felicitated the dignitaries. She highlighted the university’s journey since its founding in 1994, its global reach through a vast alumni network, and its dedication to fostering opportunities for future collaborations.

H.E. Ms. Jacqueline Mukangira, in her first visit to Indira, spoke about Rwanda’s history of resilience and reconciliation, reflecting on the challenges her nation has overcome and the unity that drives its future. She highlighted Rwanda’s achievements, gender equality, strong digital infrastructure, a rapidly growing economy, and its status as one of Africa’s cleanest and safest nations. She underlined Rwanda’s openness to building stronger ties with India in education, trade, and beyond.

H.E. Ubong Akpan Johnny expressed deep appreciation for the hospitality at Indira and emphasized the strong ties between Nigeria and India. He noted the presence of over 160 Indian companies in Nigeria and the longstanding educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries. He stressed how both nations can deepen their cooperation in education, technology, and business.
A thoughtful Q&A session followed, in which inquisitive students asked various questions, including “What can the youth do to make these ties stronger in the future?”, “What is student life like in Rwanda?”, and more. H.E. Ubong Akpan Johnny answered that firm work of cooperation, understanding cultures and systems, and collaborating on education and business can result in stronger ties between the two nations. He also said that Indian students can explore opportunities in Nigeria by engaging in education, technology, and collaborative projects, and learning from local systems.

Answering the question on “Which sectors are expected to grow in the next 5–10 years in Rwanda?”, H.E. Ms. Jacqueline Mukangira said that agriculture, tourism, IT, and services are expanding rapidly.

The program included a vibrant cultural performance by Indira students, dedicated to Lord Ganpati and inspired by the Mahabharata, before moving into the heart of the session: the addresses by the esteemed delegates.

While the delegates commended Indira University’s warmth, the students walked away inspired by the stories of resilience, growth, and opportunity. Such engagements not only reflect the prestige of the university but also nurture bonds that will shape global collaborations in the years to come.
