A Tribute Beyond Words: Indira University Introduces ‘Indira Stree’ in Memory of Twisha Sharma
Twisha Sharma, a beloved alumna of Indira University, lost her life under very tragic circumstances. She was a loving daughter, a friend, and a bright young woman with dreams in her eyes and passion in her actions. Unfortunately, she is no longer with us today. To honour her memory, Indira University held a prayer meet on 19th May 2026 at the Tapasya Campus. Faculty members, students, senior leadership, and members of the Indira family gathered in a moment of collective mourning. Twisha’s parents joined the gathering virtually, and the silence that filled the room reflected a grief too profound for words.
Led by Dr. Tarita Shankar, President of Indira University and Chairperson & Chief Mentor of Indira Group of Institutes, the gathering also marked the official launch of Indira Stree, a dedicated support and well-being initiative created for women associated with the university, even beyond their years on campus.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tarita Shankar spoke about the urgent need to move beyond silence and create systems of support for women facing emotional, social, or personal struggles. She emphasized that at a place like Indira University, where every student is meant to feel heard, it is deeply disappointing to learn that one of its alumnae took her own life. She spoke about how disturbing such incidents are and raised important questions about why society continues to fail women and why systems often fail when women reach out for justice. She stressed that society must do more to ensure that no woman is left without support during moments of vulnerability.
Through Indira Stree, women connected with the university will have access to emotional counselling, mental health support, career mentorship, legal referral assistance, grievance redressal, and emergency support. The initiative has been envisioned as a safe and enduring support system, one that continues long after graduation and extends beyond institutional boundaries.
Closing the gathering, Dr. Tarita Shankar addressed every woman associated with the institution with a message of reassurance and solidarity. She affirmed that no woman should ever feel alone in her battles and that help, support, and a listening ear will always be available through the Indira community. Indira Stree is open to all women associated with Indira University and will offer emotional support, mental health counselling, mentorship, career guidance, legal referral assistance, grievance support, and emergency help.
More than an initiative, Indira Stree stands as a long-term commitment to care, dignity, solidarity, and the belief that support for women should never end with a degree.
